Teaching

LSU · 2022 — present

My teaching philosophy, in four tenets:

01

Open & accessible resources

I advocate for open-source, free, and accessible course materials — no student should be priced out of learning mathematics.

02

Minimal lecturing

Class time belongs to problem-session discussions, not monologue. Students learn mathematics by doing it, together.

03

Confidence & belonging

I work to build students’ confidence and their sense of belonging in the mathematics classroom.

04

Concreteness abstraction

I start with a concrete problem students can solve with what they already know, then tweak it until it demands the new ideas — and only then arrive at the abstraction.
